Andrei:In 2008, I was thriving at UBS Investment Bank - a position my Romanian immigrant family celebrated as the ultimate American dream. We’d moved to the U.S. when I was 9, chasing opportunity and stability. Everything looked perfect, except one thing: I wasn’t happy.

As the financial crisis hit and layoffs loomed, tension filled the office. While colleagues fought to stay, I chose to be laid off. Walking away from a high-paying, prestigious job in a crashing economy seemed crazy to many - especially  my father, who worried deeply. But I saw it as freedom: a chance to redefine success on my terms and reclaim control of my life.

I turned the layoff into a three-and-a-half-month backpacking sabbatical through Southeast Asia - Vietnam’s vibrant streets, Laos’ lush landscapes, Thailand’s bustling markets. Language barriers, cultural shocks, and constan unpredictability tested me daily. Yet each challenge revealed inner strength, resourcefulness, and adaptability I hadn’t known I had. The journey became true self discovery, igniting a desire to follow my heart and make a real  difference.

Back home, I applied what I had learned to start my real estate career. In real estate, I found genuine passion: guiding people through complex transactions, solving problems, overcoming obstacles, and delivering results that change lives. The work fulfills me deeply, and the flexibility lets me prioritize what matters - being present for my supportive wife Carla, our daughters, and our beloved pets: our dog Olive (who even flies with us on vacations) and our cat,  Popeye.

Real estate gave me balance and purpose. Every day feels like an adventure. My unconventional path proves that challenges, met with resilience and determination, can lead to personal growth, true fulfillment, and a life built on your own terms.

Camilo: After 15 years of working in restaurants, starting as a bus boy, to a waiter then bartender, I was starting to feel the effects of burnout. I loved the people I met in hospitality, but I felt that my career was limited. I’d met Andrei through the restaurant, and he encouraged me to give real estate a try. My girlfriend (now wife), Merita, encouraged me to pursue it as well. With a family full of brokers and her own experience in property management, she told me, “You’re great with people and sales. You’d be amazing at this!”

In March 2017, I took the leap and got licensed. What I found was much of my hospitality experience prepared me to serve my clients well. I grew up in Colombia, but at the age of 13, my mom sent me to live with my dad in Connecticut. I wasn’t thrilled about it and spoke very little English. But, I fell in love with the community the freedom, and the opportunities. Fairfield County became my home and has been ever since. In college, I studied a few different things including business, public relations, and marketing. While they all taught me something, none felt like the right fit. My true strength was working with people, and I developed that further in hospitality.

Andrei and I partnered up in real estate because we share the same principles. We’re not salespeople pushing houses. We’re advisors. We listen closely to what clients truly want and need, showing as many properties as it takes to find the right match. Our clients always come first.

Real estate has changed my life. I can help people create the life they want to live, while I do the same for myself. The flexibility of this work means I can prioritize my clients and myself. This work allows me to pursue my appreciation for wellness, my love for Soccer to cheer on NYCFC every season and watch Manchester United matches. It gives me the ability to travel with Merita, and spend time together as we plan for a family. Even when

I’m away, I can stay connected and maintain a standard for my clients. “Best of all, everything I do is in pursuit of creating the life I’ve always envisioned, one rooted in passion for both my work and my family.”
